Drodzy Fizycy,

Część z Was oprócz aktywnego członkostwa w naszym Towarzystwie uczestniczy w życiu innych towarzystw, w tym towarzystw o zasięgu ponad krajowym.
Jednym z istotnych towarzystw naukowych, szczególnie dla osób związanych z radioterapią, jest ESTRO. Rok bieżący jest rokiem wyborczym – członkowie ESTRO wybierać będą prezydenta, kt óry będzie sprawował urząd przez kolejne sześć lat. Najpierw jako “president-elect” (2 lata), potem jako “president” (2 lata) i “past-president” (2 lata).
Do tegorocznego konkursu stanęły dwie osoby: Dirk Varellen i Barbara Jareczek-Fossa. Taki układ kandydatur sprawia, że serca polskich fizyków medycznych mogą być rozdarte. Z jednej strony Polka, co prawda realizująca swoją karierę zawodową we Włoszech, ale Polka (!). Z drugiej strony Belg, znany Belg i na dodatek FIZYK (!!!). Pierwszy raz w historii ESTRO całkiem realnym staje się wizja objęcia przez FIZYKA przewodnictwa nad Towarzystwem (DUŻA RZECZ).
Wybór jest iście demokratyczny – każdy aktywny członek ESTRO może oddać swój głos.

Dear colleagues,

ESTRO will soon be starting a new round of presidential elections. Between 19 Feb and 11 Mar 2024, the electronic election portal will be open for all ESTRO members to elect the next ESTRO president.

According to the statutes of the society “The President shall be elected by the General Assembly for a period of six (6) years whereby he/she shall serve the first two (2) years as President-Elect, the following two (2) years as President and the last two (2) years as Past-President.”

For the first time in ESTRO’s multi-disciplinary society, a medical physicist is running for presidency. Dirk Verellen, Head of Medical Physics at Antwerp, Belgium has served ESTRO as treasurer for more than ten years in addition to active involvement in the ESTRO physics committee, organization of congresses and shaping ESTRO’s strategy for the future.

As the physics committee of ESTRO, we strongly support Dirk’s candidature to be our future ESTRO president.
We kindly ask for your support as a European Medical Physics and Radiation Technology society and would greatly appreciate if you could communicate this information to your members and through your social media channels.
